Learn more about Westpac Credit Cards. Know the benefits and advantages of owning a Westpac card.
Westpac has three categories of card offering which are all Mastercard’s:
- Low Rate
- and its own Hot points Rewards card.
The Westpac low rate Mastercard is ideal if you don’t pay off your credit card in full each month and want to save on interest costs. It has the lowest interest rate and card fee of all the credit cards Westpac offers. Westpac also offers a balance transfer promotion.
The Westpac Airpoints cards are for those who love to travel but pay off their credit card balance in full each month.
|Credit Name||Earn Rate|
|Airpoints Mastercard||Earn one Airpoints Dollar for every $120 of eligible spend and nil status points.|
|Airpoints Platinum Mastercard||Earn one Airpoints Dollar for every $75 of eligible spend and 1 status point for every $225 of spend.|
|Airpoints World Mastercard||Earn one Airpoints Dollar for every $65 of eligible spend and 1 status point for every $225 of spend.|
The important thing to determine is if you will spend enough on your credit card to earn enough Airpoints to justify the annual charge.
The Airpoints Platinum Mastercard annual charge is $145 per year meaning you would have to spend $10,875 a year to earn $145 worth of Air New Zealand Airpoints.
With a Westpac Hotpoints Credit Card, you earn rewards for your everyday spending. Every dollar spent earns Hot Points that can be redeemed for a range of rewards including:
- Gift cards
- Kiwisaver Contributions
- Donations and Gifting
Each of Westpac’s cards earns Hotpoints at different rates, with the cards that have a higher annual charge having a better ‘earn’ rate. The difficulty is that a Hot point is not equal to one $1, therefore, you have to be careful that you earn enough points to cover the cost of the card.
As an example, the Hotpoints Platinum Mastercard has an annual charge of $125 per year. Using Westpac’s rewards calculator, if you spend $2,011 a month on your card, you would have enough points to purchase an Amazon Echo which has a current market price of $179.
With Westpac’s CardGuard you’re protected 24/7 from fraudulent activity. CardGuard protects all Westpac credit cards.
